How Fruit Tree Adoption Works — From Tagging to Harvest
By Baageecha by Bargee Farms · April 2026 · 5 min read
The idea of adopting a fruit tree — paying for a season with a specific, real, named tree in an orchard — is still unfamiliar to most people. The questions we get most often are: Is this a subscription? What does "adopt" actually mean? What exactly do I receive?
This post answers all of that. Step by step, from the moment you pay to the moment the box arrives at your door.
What is fruit tree adoption?
Tree adoption is not a subscription. It is not a delivery service. It is the seasonal rental of a specific, real tree in a real orchard.
When you adopt a tree through Baageecha by Bargee Farms, you are not purchasing a fixed quantity of fruit. You are purchasing the entire output of one specific tree for one season. That tree — a GI-tagged Jardalu Mango tree in Bhagalpur, a Malda Mango tree in Bengal, or a Shahi Litchi tree in Muzaffarpur — is assigned exclusively to you. No other order draws from it. What it produces is yours.
The difference matters because it creates a direct relationship between you and the tree — not between you and a warehouse.
Step 1: Choose your tree
For Season 2026, three varieties are available for adoption:
- Jardalu Mango Tree — Bhagalpur, Bihar. GI Tag #18. Estimated harvest: 15–25 kg. ₹5,999.
- Malda Mango Tree — Malda, Bengal. Heritage Dudhiya variety. Estimated harvest: 20–30 kg. ₹5,999.
- Shahi Litchi Tree — Muzaffarpur, Bihar. GI Tag #7. Estimated harvest: up to 30 kg. ₹5,999.
Only 50 trees are available across all varieties for Season 2026. This is not a marketing limitation. It is the actual number of trees we have in the orchards designated for adoption this season.
Step 2: Adoption confirmed — your tree is tagged
Within 48 hours of payment confirmation, our team at the orchard physically tags your tree with your name. A physical label is tied to the tree trunk. A photograph of your named tree — your name visible on the tag — is sent to you via WhatsApp.
You also receive a PDF Adoption Certificate with the tree's ID, variety, orchard location, and your name. This is the document of your ownership for the season.
Step 3: Weekly WhatsApp updates from the orchard
From the week of adoption until harvest, our farm team sends you a short video update every week via WhatsApp. Not a newsletter. Not a branded email. A video from the person standing under your tree.
You will see the blossom stage. You will see the fruit forming. You will see the size and colour progression. You will see the orchard conditions — rain, heat, the team at work. This is your orchard connection for the season.
Step 4: Harvest day
On harvest day, every fruit from your tree is picked. Within 24 hours, your fruit is individually sorted, wrapped, and packed in premium corrugated crates. For mango adoptions, this is a single shipment. For Shahi Litchi, the harvest is spread across the 3-week litchi season — multiple batches as the litchi ripens in succession across the tree.
You receive a harvest report on dispatch day: number of fruits, total weight, harvest date, tree age. A physical document of your season.
Step 5: Delivery to your door
We operate a 72-hour harvest-to-door promise for all adoption orders. Refrigerated transit for metro deliveries. Your full harvest — everything your tree produced — arrives at your address.
Who is tree adoption for?
Tree adoption is for people who want a direct, personal relationship with the food they eat. People who want to know which tree their fruit came from — not just which farm, not just which region, but which specific tree. People who want the full harvest of a heritage variety, not a fixed-weight box allocation.
It is also a genuinely unusual gift. An adoption certificate arrives first. The fruit arrives at harvest. A gift that comes in two parts — and the second part is a box of the finest mango or litchi the recipient has ever tasted.
Season 2026 adoption slots are limited to 50 trees across all varieties. If you are considering it, pre-orders are open now.
